Overview

The MaxSignal® Nitrofurantoin (AHD) ELISA Kit provides a competitive enzyme immunoassay for the quantitative analysis of AHD. Nitrofurantoin belongs to the class of nitrofuran antibiotics and has been widely and effectively used for the prevention and treatment of gastrointestinal infections caused by Escherichia coli and Salmonella spp. in cattle, pigs and poultry. It was also used as a growth promoter in food-producing animals. However, both the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Union (EU) are unable to assign a maximum residue limit for AHD because of the potential carcinogenic effects of its residues on human health. Therefore, the administration of nitrofurantoin to food-producing animals has been prohibited. It enables government agencies, food manufacturers and processors, as well as quality assurance organizations, to detect AHD, the major metabolite of nitrofurantoin, in various sample types in response to customer concerns about food safety. This kit is manufactured to the international quality standard ISO 9001.
